Gwen Darien, Editor-in-Chief

As a cancer survivor herself, Gwen Darien brings a wealth of personal and professional experience to CR magazine. Darien was previously the editor-in-chief of MAMM, the country's only consumer magazine dedicated to women with breast and reproductive cancer. Under Darien's leadership, MAMM won international acclaim for its coverage of survivorship, health disparities, controversies in women's cancers and health care policy. She is a sought-after advocate and public speaker on issues related to cancer survivorship and has received several awards for her work. Darien is also the director of the Survivor and Patient Advocacy Program at the American Association for Cancer Research, where she oversees initiatives to promote partnerships between advocates and researchers, including the organization's renowned Scientist↔Survivor programs.

Jessica Gorman, Deputy Editor

Jessica Gorman's extensive experience as a science and medical writer and editor, as well as her perspective after losing her mother to cancer, contribute to CR's pledge to provide reliable and accurate reporting that is responsive to the needs of cancer patients and their families. Gorman worked at Discover magazine before joining the weekly magazine Science News, where she wrote about subjects including nanotechnology, tissue engineering and drug development and delivery. In 2003, Gorman was selected as a Knight Science Journalism Fellow at MIT and spent a year studying biology, bioengineering, biomaterials, nanoscale materials and neuroscience on the MIT and Harvard campuses. She has also worked as a freelance science journalist, with her stories appearing in publications including Smithsonian and Technology Review.

Yolanda Cuomo, Creative Director

Yolanda Cuomo is an experienced art director as well as an avid educator. Cuomo works with leading publishers, museums, authors, editors, artists and photographers to develop memorable and meaningful cultural and commercial projects. Cuomo's work has been honored with several important industry awards. Most recently, her art direction of Aperture, the premier magazine for significant photography, was recognized with a prestigious 2004 National Magazine Award in the category of General Excellence from the American Society of Magazine Editors. Cuomo also received top honors in 1990 and 2004 from the International Center of Photography's annual Infinity Awards. Other leading professional organizations that have recognized Cuomo's work include the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Society of Publication Designers, the Art Directors Club and the Magazine Publishers of America.

Kristi Norgaard, Senior Designer

An accomplished editorial designer, Kristi Norgaard possesses a fantastic typographic sensibility. Norgaard, a graduate of the Parsons School of Design in New York City, worked as the assistant art director at George magazine before joining Yolanda Cuomo's design firm seven years ago. She is the designer for the award-winning magazine Aperture and recently collaborated with Cuomo on Remote Viewing, a book and exhibit for the Whitney Museum, and Self Portrait with Cows Going Home, a book by photographer Sylvia Plachy. Norgaard is also a devoted bicyclist who has ridden in the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge three times and raised more than $6,000 for the Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
