Three decades ago, many doctors were skeptical about the importance of treating the social and emotional aspects of cancer. Today, cancer centers are treating the whole patient, not just the disease, thanks in large part to the pioneering efforts of psycho-oncologist Jimmie Holland, the 2005 winner of the AACR Joseph H. Burchenal Clinical Research Award.
