After several heart and cancer surgeries since August 2000, 40 radiation treatments and 36 pounds lost, I couldn't continue my work in landscape and figure painting or art instruction. I felt lost and depressed. On a rare excursion out of my New York City apartment, I met the art director for the Creative Center. She invited me to participate in Still Life, a documentary digital photography program for cancer survivors supported by the Lance Armstrong Foundation. I jumped at the chance. The images were selected from a portfolio of 20 I did between October 2005 and April 2006, including photographs of two pages from a diary I kept during treatment in 2002.
